Invention of Blue LED, Laser and Solid State Light with Shuji Nakamura

7/6/2015; 59 minutes

Shuji Nakamura discusses the way in which his invention grew to be what it is by starting with the work of growing high-quality gallium nitride (GaN) crystals in 1991 to demonstrating highly luminescent, blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in 1994. The resulting revolution in generating white light has had a tremendous impact on society by providing highly efficient, robust, portable, non-toxic, battery-operable light sources. Recorded on 10/30/2014. (#29750)
