As many as 30% of women have fibroids, benign (non-cancerous) growths that develop within the uterus. Most women with fibroids have no symptoms and need no treatment. However, when fibroids, cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic discomfort and frequent urination, women should seek medical attention. A variety of treatment options exist.
