Although Internet-of-Things (IoT) have their roots in ideas that are decades old, it is a hot topic these days causing both excitement and concern. Proponents see traffic flowing more smoothly, electric grids operating efficiently, environmental sensing, and monitoring health. On the other hand, there are a range of security and privacy concerns that need to be addressed. Margaret Martonosi, Computer Science at Princeton, discusses key technology and policy challenges for future IoT applications and devices, and outlines particular technical issues for researchers to address.
