Defying all odds, the national diagnostic prevalence of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) rose, during the past decade, to 9.5% of all children and adolescents nationwide. This average, however, belies the huge variation in prevalence across states, across social economic status, and across race. In this talk, Dr. Hinshaw will discuss diagnostic features, sex differences, developmental patterns, underlying models, and causal mechanisms. He will also focus on the promise of multimodal treatments, despite the lack of sustained long-term gains accruing from any current intervention strategies. ADHD is far from a static diagnostic category, but reflects dynamic developmental processes occurring across the lifespan. (#23069)
