Lt. Col. Ross Fobair was the first American pilot claimed by a surface-to-air missile in the Vietnam War in 1965. Fobair, who was 30 years old at the time went down 45 miles northeast of Hanoi, was listed as missing in action. In this moving tribute, Betty Fobair McDermott (who graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1951) and her son, Bruce Giffin (CEO, Giffen & Crane General Contractors, Inc) recount their unrelenting efforts to determine the fate of Fobair whose crash site was eventually identified in 1997.
