1) How can I watch UCTV programs online?

In order to enjoy UCTV's programming online, your computer should have a high-speed internet connection, such as a cable modem, DSL, T1, etc. A dial-up connection is not sufficient to effectively capture streaming video.

You can watch UCTV programming from our website in many ways:

    Live Internet Stream
You can watch UCTV's Live Webstream just as you would if you were watching your television. The live stream is available in Flash Video format and requires a Flash plug-in to view in your web browser. 98% of web users already have this plug-in installed, however, you can download a Free Flash Player if necessary.

    Online Video Archive
You can view specific programs on demand through our online video library. Easily search through our database of thousands of videos by title, subject, keyword, campus or show ID number and watch them in Flash Video format.

    Audio and Video Podcasts
You can download audio (mpeg3) and video (mpeg4) podcasts of many UCTV programs to enjoy on your mobile device such as an iPod or other MP3 player. Podcast files are found at UCTV's website and on iTunes U Beyond Campus.

    RSS Feeds
Receive the latest UCTV flash videos and podcasts by subscribing to UCTV RSS Feeds in your favorite reader. Our feeds are available in many subjects and series.

2) How can I search for UCTV programs?

There are many ways to search for specific UCTV programs:

    Search Field
In the upper right portion of our website, you can search for programs by title, keyword and show number.

    Search or Browse By Subject
UCTV programs are divided into eight main categories: Arts and Music, Business, Education Issues, Gardening and Agriculture, Health and Medicine, Humanities, Public Affairs, and Science. If you know the category of your program, visit the subject page and enter a keyword or portion of the title in the search box in the upper right corner of the web site.

You can also browse subject pages by sub-category, related series, most popular online videos and programs airing this week in that subject.

    Search or Browse By Series
Visit our UCTV series page to find the series you're interested in, then browse or search the list of related programs.

    Browse Online Schedule
If you know the date and/or time a particular program aired on UCTV, you can browse our online schedule for more information about that program.

    Contact UCTV
If you need further assistance, feel free to contact us directly with your inquiry.

3) Do I get UCTV on my local cable system?

UCTV is available in 4 million cable households in CA and other locations. Visit the cable page for listings. There are many other ways to watch UCTV and you can find them all at our Where to Watch page.

4) Can I order a DVD of a program?

Some programs are available for purchase on DVD. Visit our secure online shop where you can browse and purchase videos and have them shipped directly to you. You may also place your order by fax, mail or telephone.

A 30-minute program costs $19.95 ($24.95 for anything over 30 minutes), plus tax (where applicable) and shipping. Payment can be made with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express), or by check payable to UC Regents. The turnaround time is approximately 14 days for credit card orders, 14-20 days for checks.

Please note that not all videos are available for purchase due to copyright limitations. We are happy to research your request and will let you know if we are able to sell you a copy of the show, or try to refer you to the copyright holder who may be able to provide you with a copy. (For example: UCTV is unable to sell tapes of any shows originating from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB). However, many UCSB programs are often available for sale at their website.)

Keep in mind that the fastest and least expensive way to access our programs is through our searchable archive of free online videos. If you need help locating a program of interest, feel free to contact us directly and we will do our best to help you.

5) How can I find more information about a particular show or speaker?

Our website provides descriptions and background information for programs, including related topics and links to other UCTV programs with the speaker. We also do our best to include links to the website(s) of the sponsoring organization, department or speaker.

We are unable to give out direct contact information for guest speakers beyond what is available at our website. However, most of the speakers that appear on UCTV are public figures and, with a little research on the internet or telephone, you are likely to have success in reaching the speaker or someone else who may be able to provide you with more information. We recommend you begin by contacting the department of the host UC campus. If you need further assistance, please contact us directly.

6) When will a particular program air again?

Most of our programs air multiple times throughout the week and/or month. To find out when a particular program will air again, visit our online schedule where you can browse up to three weeks in advance. You can browse our online schedule by date, see what's airing this week in a specific subject, and find programs airing from each UC campus. Many UCTV medical education programs provide CME credit. CME credits are issued only by the program's sponsoring UC campus. All correspondence, registration and questions regarding credit must be communicated directly with the sponsoring campus. UCTV cannot issue credit for CME courses.

To learn more about obtaining CME credits, visit Programs with CME Credit Available, locate your particular program of interest, and follow the links for that program's CME availability.

10) Do you air programming from outside the University of California?

The bulk of UCTV's programming is either produced by the University or features members of the University community -- faculty, staff, researchers, students or alumni. However, we do accept occasional submissions from other educational entities that are in line with the University of California's core missions -teaching, research and public service. All programs are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to submit your non-UC program, please contact Lynn Burnstan: lburnstan@ucsd.edu.
